The book is based on 28 open interviews with refugee background immigrant parents, youngsters, teachers, native Finnish teachers, and school principals as well as the writer’s long experience with diversity. The results show how on one hand the home, on the other hand the school fail to ensure the children’s learning.
What has gone on over 20 years is inhuman to these children and we cannot afford to keep losing their talent. We have no time to waste in putting an end to this development. Unfortunately, far too many transgenrational immigrant children have adopted the experience based conception that nothing is expected of them in Finnish school.
The book presents conclusions and recommendations challenging us and the system to improve the quality of education for these children.
